Dr. Mercer is a professor of pastoral theology at Virginia Theological Seminary.  She is an ordained clergywoman, widely published in the areas of children, theology and pastoral care.  Her most recent works, Welcoming Children: A Practical Theology of Childhood (St. Louis, MO: Chalice Press, 2000), and GirlTalk Godtalk:  Why Faith Matters to Adolescent Girls- And Their Parents, (Jossey Bass, 2008), helps parents, pastors and religious educators think deeply about ministering and loving the youngest feminine members of our society.
